Cox Connected Environments Collaboratory at ASU Sources Community Voices to Improve Campuses with Smart Technologies

The Cox + ASU team tests a Collaboratory concept

The challenge of improving everyday life for students, faculty, staff and visitors to ASU campuses and their surrounding metropolitan areas through developing “smart” campuses and communities; is being met by a new partnership between Cox and ASU, built on community voices.

The Cox Connected Environments Collaboratory was born out of ASU’s mission to find opportunities for improvement across campuses. In order to bring efficient and sustainable smart solutions, Cox’s innovative resources and robust infrastructure became a clear connection to make a real impact on ASU’s campuses and communities.

Those communities are the starting point for smart ideation. The “collab” of the Collaboratory is essential; our communities are vital to find the problems that need to be solved, helping surface  relevant solutions by remaining real and creative.

In the past months, the Collaboratory has already begun compiling ideas from the ASU community. For example, the improvement of safe paths for pedestrians and bikers on campus will encourage the use of sustainable transportation options. To meet this challenge, we are testing  LiDAR technology to track ASU paths, a remote sensing method that measures distances utilizing lasers. This technology could help us identify and deploy efficient and safe pathways.

This is just the beginning. The Cox Connected Environments Collaboratory at ASU is now looking to hear your ideas to help us solve new and exciting challenges with smart, connected technology. Fill out the Collaboratory “big idea” webform to get smart with us.
